It is the camo pattern of choice these days...
I definitely agree, the R&D for this isn't geared towards ultralight backpackers. Sil would probably be perfectly fine for any of the above mentioned uses, plus some...but it also has to be geared towards the dullest, most brutish individual in order to pass muster, not the one that pays careful attention to every detail. Chain is only as strong as the weakest link kind of thing. I'm sure some company could make a knock-off multicam pattern material in sil...but to me that defeats the purpose. I've seen the Crye stuff next to chicom airsoft stuff, and it's decidedly different. It's definitely my camo of choice, with Cadpat and Marpat being tied for second. Maybe I should look for some Marpat sil for the time being.

I may be thinking of something else, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like a year or so ago someone contacted duro about getting some sil made in MC and it sounded like they would do if if you would buy 10,000 yards or some astronomical amount. I'm not positive, but that seems like the scenario.
    Good luck,

In regards to MC fabric, I found this interesting:

NEMO Equipment displayed their ZIRO 2P SE low-profile floorless bug shelter at the Warrior Expo – East. The ZIRO is a very low profile shelter (27″ of heght) featuring No-See-Um bug netting and a removable fly of 30D nylon. The lightest MultiCam tent fabric available.
I suspect that companies like NEMO are getting custom made material from duro. Hopefully this means we will see other options soon.
