    Multicam Tarp

I've searched and read the threads on others multicam tarp exploits. I've noticed that they stuck with the 1.9 PU ripstop for making the tarps. I was looking at the Duro site and was wondering if this fabric would be suitable for a tarp. I don't know much about NanoSphere except that it's supposed to be waterproof/breathable and Feathered Friends has it as an upgrade fabric. It's listed as 1.55oz/yd^2, so it should be a lighter than the PU coated fabric, and maybe close to silnylon weights. It's obviously not cheap at $11.34/linear yd with a 5yd minimum. As always, all thought, ideas, or suggestions are welcome. Here is a link to the fabric.

Sounds like a dwr finish that could wear off in time. Multi cam is still "new" in terms of use. They are just starting to issue this stuff to operators and will become more widely used in the future opening the way for fabrics to be used in equipment.

I'd say it has some definite possibilities. Even if the performance was equal to sil and the weight diff negligible you'd have to want Multicam enough to justify the cost. Which for some (maybe even me) would be acceptable if the performance was there.
    Good luck,

dwr isn't useable for tarps. dwr is "water repellency", meaning it's a chemical on the fabric that causes the water to bead up. but it's basically just plain woven fabric, there are holes between all the threads (since it isn't coated with anything). this means falling raindrops are gonna penetrate the weave because they have force behind them while light rain and mist will bead and roll off.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. I'd like a multicam tarp, but also want something lighter than my current Hennessy Hex PU. I know I could almost cut the weight in half by going with sil and cat cuts. Perhaps a grey tarp is in order and the multicam will just have to wait...weight?...wait.

I got a sample from them in the mail and I like it a lot so I'm going to have a tarp made from it.

Multicam is worlds apart from acupat. Cadpat or marpat would be a maybe, but I'd really like the multicam. It just plain works. Maybe I could make a minimal coverage PU multicam to keep the weight down. I'm torn.

No need to get it, since Wild Things makes a tarp of the same weight, without the silly UCP camouflage. Thus, the fabric is out there.

They also make a MC poncho liner

Duro sells that fabric. It's the PU stuff that ends up almost twice as heavy as sil.

With military sales driving the R&D on these kind of things, I am not sure if we will see MC sil soon.

Mission requirements for a tarp or poncho may preclude the use of sil. I am still new to sil, so I don't know if it is waterproof enough to be used as a poncho raft, or how strong it is for causality evacuation (improvised stretcher).

It is the camo pattern of choice these days...
