    1/2 underquilt, leg pad all-in-one

So I might give this a go, but I've never liked a pad in the hammock with me. If you have a double layer, the pad can go in there. Maybe just keeping it under your legs isn't so bad??
Anyone considered making the underquilt extend with fabric and a pocket for the pad?? That way they would be one piece and outside the hammock.

I have a few DIY double layered hammocks. I like them over a single layer because of the ability to place a pad between the layers and not having to wrestle with a pad inside the hammock, instead having the double layers hold it in place. As for putting the pad under your legs, I dont feel that a double layer hammock is nessary as all you have to do is lift up you legs and place the pad under them. I do this with a foot pad, sice sometimes my nest doesn't always give the warmth for me down at the ends of the quilt. YMMV.

yeah, pad under your legs only is not bad at all.

if you had a setup like you describe, i see there not being nearly enough tension to keep the ccf tight to the bottom of hammock. a double layer hammock places lots of force on the pad smashing it flat and holding it in place, your uq suspension would have to be really tensioned to keep the pad snug to the bottom of the hammock, i don't see you being able to get it tight enough.

i have been thinking about a way of attaching a 3/4 length pad to the outside of the lower hammock (under the legs) by shock cords.

Just a thought, but the way WBG made my underquilt the shockcord is just one big loop. The UQ slides up and down very easily because there are just two channels for the shockcord to slide. I bet you could apply the same concept to the pad; just cut a notch in the sides for the shockcord, then reseal somehow. Maybe just tape to hold the 'channel' closed.

No coffee yet, so this may be way off!
