I'm almost certain this has already been discussed...a search might find the thread.

Shouldn't be too hard for a DIYer to sew in some velcro loops to the underside of their tarp in which to attach a Nemo bladder.
Good find on the "Spare Tubes", but I didn't find lengths for the different tubes they sell. Anyone else find that info?

The Morpho 2P would be a good start but I think it needs to be covered by some sil or cuben to protect it a little. I still think just cuben would be a great idea.

    Ridgeline above the tarp?

How much downward force from the sides of the tarp could the tube withstand before it begins to collapse?

Could you inflate it with your lungs to have enough air pressure to actually make it work?

That is a good question, you'd probably end up with a hernia

Great idea. I remember some heat seal-able material used for diy air mattresses. May be heavier but would work.

I like the idea, and especially like how folks here take an innovation from one facet of camping and apply it to hammocks (or tarps in this case). But the devil's advocate in me sort of asks "why". It seem like over engineering a part that doesn't need replacement.

MM, you cite that it would be one less thing to lose or break. But you could still lose the tube (unless the tube is built in) or puncture it. And depending on how much pressure you have to put into the tubes (as is the case at least in the Nemo version) there is a pump to break or lose. Weight might be a factor, but you'd have to build it, or weigh a commercially available tube and compare it to an aluminum or CF pole. I'm not sure which side of the fence it would come out on.

Just curious, have you broken a pole while using it in a tarp? If so, under what circumstances? Wouldn't a side tie out give the same function as the pole mod?

No haven't broken nor lost a cf tarp pole yet. The inflatable pole would also not have to be placed into position. A lot of what we do isn't abs necessary ..just fun tinkering. Now how much are those Nnemos.

I work with balloons and have done so as a professional balloon artist for many years. there is not much i have not done with inflatables. i see a few problems with makeing a diy version of this unless you have a way to put a one way valve in. i might have try doing this with a few double or triple stuffed animal type balloons.
