Coleman Inflatable (First Night Out)

Dear forum,

Last night i spent my first night in my Hennessy Hammock. It got down to 45 degrees (atleast thats what the weather said). There wasnt hardly any wind, and i was using a teen rated speeping bag. I also used my coleman inflatable pad. At the lowest temperature of the night (45), i wasnt cold or warm. So, i guess this is a good thing, but 45 isnt even that cold. I remember that i wasnt perfectly aligned with the pad, so some of my upper body and lower body were just on the hammock material. Should i continue to keep using this pad? I will be testing it out more in the future. Has anyone had any experiance with this Coleman pad?

Also, on a funny note, in the middle of the night my cat jumped on the rainfly of my hammock! It nearly scared me to death!

It looks like, if you were comfy and temps will not go much below 45, you are good to go. If you had an SPE ( http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeGearSPE.html http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14959 ) you could add Walmart Blue pad ( cut into segments) to cover those parts that were getting off the pad. Also, if you needed to camp when colder, just stack a WM blue pad(or 2) under the Coleman, all held together by the SPE. It would allow you to be warm at much colder temps, just stack as needed and if needed.

Well, the time tested truth that many of us have discovered is that pads suck compared to under-quilts. It sounds like the pad is very substandard if you not warm at only 45F. The cat story was funny, thanks for sharing.

Danalex: Is the phrase under your nic in reference to Weird Al, or in defiance to a mothers warnings? =)

So if i got this SPE, i could just stack as many pads as i need to allow to be warm?
Oh, and one thing about the WM pads. Aren't they EXTREMELY bulky? This is one only thing that has kept me from buying one.. Or seven. I cant even imagine backpacking with an SPE and two pads strapped to my back. Im not concerned about the weight, its the bulk.
Ive also heard that the REI pads (at close to the same price) are much more comfortable than the WM ones. So i am kind of leaning towards REI because they are basically the same insulating wise but REI is better comfort wise. Thoughts?

You can use an SPE with one pad. The wings will really help keep it under you and you on top of it.
You can see it here in some videos I did. It is in PART 1.
I have two in more than likely but used it with one pad in milder weather.

I noticed that SPE's aren't sold anymore. What am i supposed to do now?

You can use duct or Gorilla tape and add wings to your pad. Seen it done on here.
