Thanks Rick.....Luckily I'm getting some physical therapy and they've already hooked me up with a brace. I'm sure it won't be very comfortable for hiking but you do what ya gotta do.

Hey, if you guys want to drag me around just make sure there's room for a cooler to sit on my lap

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of exercise that's not walking in a straight line or 12oz curls. Unfortunately, Uncle Sam doesn't share my view so I'm hitting the gym 5 days/week for the moment.

Anybody coming out from the east coast (Cocoa, FL area) or east Orlando looking to carpool?

Flackfizer, was just going back over your first post and kinda wondered about the ' share your favorite trail food'. Are you talking appertizers, after dinner, etc? New to a lot of this trail food. Trying a few out at home. If push comes to shove, I have done armadillo & swamp cabbage.

Most people eat something dried and wetted back down with boiling water--you probably knew that! lol. I have an Exacalibur dehydrator and recommend it highly. We will probably have a few of our own homemade faves viz--sofrito black beans, sauerkraut soup with kidney beans, and probably one or two of Hawk VIttles choice packaged meals. Happy to offer tastes. Obviously this is all about the hiking food as opposed to heavy stuff. There always are the prepackaged stuff we all know all too well--I mean of course Ramen Pride.
Hedgehogs! Why can't they just share the hedge?

I still enjoy a good Chili with beans & crackers out there. Even if its from a can. I know, I know lots of weight from a can. Still Good Eats' on the first night.

Sounds like a man in dire need of a vacuum sealer. Bring the chili, leave the can at home....

You can always do a little MRE (Meals Revolting to Everyone) chili too. Just be sure you're camping downwind from me please....

I can dehydrate some vegi chilli for you, but I have no idea how to vacuum seal. It needs another gizmo I don't have. So far I have just gut the dry stuff in a ziplock and stored it in the fridge until hike time. I should add though, 100 bucks for the entry level Excalibur dehydrator is a totally worthy investment for any serious hiker. It is changing our lives both at home and on the trail.
