Looking forward to it myself. Granddaughter is all enthused about dropping granddaddy off in the woods. Should be arriving around 1500 friday.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
One week away, looking forward to more time in the Piney-Woods with you all.
Flackfizer, I will be running later than expected Friday afternoon, evening. May be hiking a bit in the dark. Can you give an idea how far down the trail you are expecting to overnight Friday. South Loop correct? South Loop Trailhead just north of the Firetower...?
The Friday trail is the one just opposite the entrance of the parking area. We are proposing to set out north on the East Loop just for Friday night. That way we will swing back to the parking area, meet arrivals at 10, and then start the South Loop as a group. The trail head for Friday night I think it is a blue blaze entrance. It is marked as clearly as a toll booth though. Not sure if you saw it the other week. It is a tiny bit farther south down CLay Sink than the actual tower itself. It is marked on the BLack and WHite trail map with a 0.5 for its first length and runs parallel to Goat Road (which like most of these, is not really a road, just a track). I will post a colorized version of the trail map tonight when I get back to my Gimp enabled computer. I expect we are going no more than a mile down that trail though. Just an overnighter. We will be right along the trail. There was a nice glade somewhere along that, and I am hoping to camp there.

So just to make sure there is no confusion, Friday night early birds will be a short ways north on the blue blaze if anyone wants to come along. The rest of the gang will meet at 10am at the fire tower parking lot and then cover the South Loop. Looking to do about 7 miles on Saturday and hang in a stand of pines the trail goes right through. If you don't make the 10 am meet up, just follow the trail and you will find us eventually. We will be the ones in the hammocks.
Super psyched amigos!

Ok--here is a colorized version. It should all be crystal clear. The only thing to keep in mind is that we will be on both Orange FT trails and Blue Blaze connector trails. The maps says "Blue" where appropriate. The my colors elide that by and large.

I will definitely be there with at least 2 other people on Saturday morning. Looking forward to it.

What does "tollbooth" mean. Do I need to bring a sack of quarters or buy a sun pass??

Everyday I look at the weather report and they keep dropping the forecasted temp. Now they're saying 42 for Friday nigt. I just finished a 2 layer IX top quilt, just for this hike ... now I'm thinking I should sew on a 3rd layer!
