    Thoughts on a thread injector

So I need to get a new one and I was looking at overstock for a decent machine that wasn't going to break the bank.

    I saw this:
    http://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewi...tml?rcmndsrc=1

Now for this price, I could get a nice Yeti UQ, so I have to ask if it is worth it?

If it is not worth it, what I should I expect to pay for a decent machine?

*Edit* Ok I should have read Rev's post, it would have answered one question, but I'm still curious if anyone has any experience with the machine in the url.

    Hi,

I'm not gonna say if it worth it but I'll just raise some more questions...

1- Do you really need a sewing machine that can write the alphabet
2- Do you really need a LCD screen to show which function you're using (on that one I'd say yes you got more function than my blackberry
3- can you find for the same price a sewing machine that as only the normal function but is better quality, more heavy-duty, ...

I say that because since I work with electronic stuff all the time, I know that if something can do everything you can think of, it tend to break.

what I do when I buy something (what I'll do when my mom's sewing machine is not gonna be available anymore) is this:

1-what are the function that I absolutely need
2-what I don't want such as fancy function that I don't have any use for it
    3-what is my budget

then I look in some shop ask the same questions to all the salesperson over and over see what they suggest and never say ok my budget is this but 10$ over is not a big deal and so on...

hope it helps at least a little

I say go to your local sewing repairman and see what older used machines he has for sale. Something heavy and all metal that sews straight and zig zag and has been serviced. My guess is he has one for $75 - $100. Take the rest of what you would have spent on the electronic machine and buy materials for a UQ...

Or take the money you saved and buy a rolled hem foot!
The old all metal ones are hard to beat and hard to break. I use a 1969 Japanese Singer clone. There's just not much that can break or wear out, and I can convert it to a foot treadle if I want to get all retro without power.

I paid $35 for a low-end brother that works fine. The other option is to ask around... every family has 2-3 machines that aren't getting used... Pay for a lube-job and a tune-up and you'd be golden.

99% of what I do uses a straight or zigzag stitch.

Though, it'd be cool to have my name embroidered on my hammock...

X2 on the local sewing shop...

    How close is adamstown?

(I have the older model of the same machine...) They're like $100 new, I think...

Brother SQ9000 Heavy-duty Computerized Sewing Machine w/ Alphabet Font (Refurbished)

That's not what you want... that's a CTI (Computerized Thread Injector). You can find a vintage PTI (Powered Thread Injector), which is heavy duty without having to say so, for less than half that price.

After all, we might have an EMP strike, and your CTI would not work off your genset!
