    Giant Black Bishop Bag Video

Hey everybody. Last night I made one of those giant black bishop bags to hold hammock, underquilt and topquilt... Previously, I had been using a small black bishop bag for the hammock and separate stuff sacks for the quilts. Here's a video demo:

Just a large double ended stuff sack. One end is permanently tied off with just a small opening remaining in the middle. I used the 1.0oz black ripstop from BWDD. It's a bit slippery, but it seems to be holding up fine. Very easy to make.

Definitely makes setup a breeze. Getting everything stuffed back in is a little difficult though.

The fabric was 40"x26".. Used up about an inch on each end for the channels and an inch for the seam allowance to bring the edges together. I arrived at the size by stuffing all of it into a stuff sack I already had, measuring it, adding several inches to the width and removing a few from the length. This was so that it would conform better to the inside of my pack. It's hard to measure the final dimensions due to the dome shape of the ends...

Well jackleberry thank ya much. looks like I have another DIY project on my list of ones to do. Do you put that set up in a trash compactor bag afterward.

Ha! Sorry about that... We usually don't get much more than drizzle around here and my pack has a polyurethane coating on the inside, so I really don't worry with a compactor bag.

Yeah. I thought the same thing until I tried it. Even though it looks stuffed tight in the video, the bag is actually still quite compressible. I can shove it in the bottom of my pack and pile stuff on top. Because in it's self-limited shape it's larger than the diameter of my pack, it fills every nook and cranny and ends up taking up about 2/3rds the space that the whole setup did in separate (tightly compressed) sacks. As an added bonus, it's quite a bit lighter than the individual compression sacks I had been using. This frees up a lot of space for my (bulky) wood stove and food.
