But I have easy access to any quilt I want for which ever trip I am taking at the time. Synthetic, down, partial lenght, full lenght. So I don't know if I count. We just put the down line on the market about a month ago, but we have been experimenting on it for over a year to get things the way I wanted. Of this past years trips about 50/50 use of each insulation for me.

Of course you count, you make them and who better to ask then the guy that makes them. Thanks for the input. you will be hearing from me as soon as i can get the money up. Thanks for the info, it has been very helpful. You would'nt by chance have some seconds that you might want to get rid of at a discount do you. I am very old school and am about function and not form. If you had a quilt that was sewn crooked or not up to your standards as long as it does its job i'm good to go. I hang on the wet side as well. I have both down and synth [new river from AHE]. If you are shopping cost, certainly synthetic, but I am sure you already know that it doesn't compress as well. I agree with Hulk though, nothing works well when wet.

+1 Hulk & Optimator -- A water-resistant undercover beneath your UQ helps keep things dry. I've gotten pounded with wind-driven rain on the coast and with an undercover and tarp, I stayed completely dry and warm. My friends in their RV couldn't believe it!!

One of my next diy projects is a big "black bishop bag" that is waterproof. That way I don't have to keep everything in separate bags. I'll just pack everything in it and compress it down. It'll make setup and take down easy, too!

How are you going to make it waterproof? I mean, even if it's made of silnylon you'll still have a hole in each end...

Injun,

staying dry in blowing rain ...
1) Pitch your tarp close to the ground
2) Close the ends of your tarp

And if that fails, www.dphammockgear.com has a super water resistant quilt make with polyester fill

OH, if your tarp won't close on the ends ... buy/make end doors OR buy a dp tarp
