    Hello from the Netherlands

    Hi everybody,

From early on I camped in a tent and loved it, especially in jungles. Nothing beats waking up to the sound of howler monkeys! About 3 years ago we wanted to upgrade to a lighter weight tent and saw a lot of tents but only one hammock (only on paper in an outdoor catalog). Based on our simple hammock at home, we were afraid we wouldn't be able to sleep comfortably in a hammock. Almost 2 years ago we jumped on the chance to try out sleeping in a hammock in Cambodia in the Cardamom Mountains during rainy season. Of course we found out it was very comfortable in the hammock, so for our next trip (to Madagascar) we will leave the tent at home and bring a hammock instead!

Thanks everybody for taking the time to post all the incredibly useful info at this forum! In the Netherlands a lot of people love camping (only on official campsites, anywhere else is illegal here), but hammock camping is virtually unknown. Thanks to you guys I've learned a great deal and am almost finished deciding what items to purchase thanks to all your info and videos by Raul Perez, Shug and others!

    Hi Ecowoman

First a great hearty welcome from Denmark - and strap yourself in and enjoy the ride

You may wanna look up some of the other dutch hangers - seems like people are beginning to see the merits of hammocking here in europa.

Thanks for the intro! I camped in the Netherlands as a kid, while visiting. I have fond memories of the camping spots there. Welcome to HF!

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome! Good to see there a more hangers in Europe out there!
Shug, thanks for the attempt at Dutch! I see that Google Translate has failed you, however. Opknoping means hanging someone by gallows. I am actually looking for a more comfortable and less definite way of hanging! Hangen would probably be the most suitable term in Dutch.
