If you can get a 40% - 50% off coupon for Joann's, then you can get reasonable prices there...
Otherwise, www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com has fantastic prices on 2nds, and has 1.1 as well as 1.5 ripstop, with limited colors, but for $3.25/yd, who's complaining!

$8 is way to much, like John said, coupon at Joann's or get it on-line.

It really depends on what your looking for and what you want to make. For the standard 1.9oz Joanns stuff, always look for a coupon for 50%. You can find seconds at a number of places like:

if you're making a tarp you'll want silnylon or a DWR coating which i've never found at joanns. do you have a super walmart that sells fabric? don't call, you'll just need to go there because i've never seen it marked correctly and have never talked to an employee that knew what it was.
I buy most if not all from BWDD, Scott sells some really nice stuff.
no wally mart dont sell fabric any more. so ill hav to get someplace else. ya the super is not so supper here. i have looked at bwdd and it looks the place so far.
