    slowhike,
I've been getting "no snag velcro" at Joann Fabrics. I think its about the same as omni tape. It has worked well for me. $3.99 a yard.

It's funny that the 'string ends' are in almost universal use in South America. I wonder if it's just because the body of the hammocks are made of such heavy material, or whether it's perhaps something to do with ventilation?

As for being 'without credit cards', are you Aamish or something? Credit cards suck big ones, but I've been using Visa debit cards for years and I wouldn't leave home without one

not amish, but i am a christian... but that`s not got anything to do w/ not having credit cards.
it`s because i`ve not been nearly as disciplined as i should have... fallen into the same credit traps that way to many others have.
now i`m just trying to dig my way out... & still find ways to occasionally improve my backpacking/hammocking gear. ...tim

You can get credit cards where you have to pre-load them with money. Almost like a debit card but not tied directly to your bank account, so no safety concerns there. These would allow you to buy online w/o actually having "credit" to dig yourself a hole with.

Actually, you can buy Visa and MC gift cards at some stores. These would work just as well.

Its like reccomending near beer to an alcoholic!!!
I'm sure he has looked into all his options and chose how he wants to conduct transactions.

actualy the pre-loaded cards might not be a bad option, if i`m going to set aside a certian amount of money for gear anyway.
i have had a couple friends buy for me, using there credit cards, & i just hand them the cash for the total, but i don`t feel right having to ask.
using the pre-loaded credit card would put the gear in my hand much quicker than sending a check or money order.
of course i could be more disiplined & plan ahead... naaah<G>. ...tim

The gift cards are a less permanent option if you can find a place near you that sells them. You don't actually have an account, like you do with the pre-loaded cards...it's like the disposable cell phones where you just throw them away when you're done. Might be easier to have discipline that way, and you'd still force yourself to plan ahead long enough to drive to the store and buy the card each time.

You could use this to buy Byer style bug netting (talk about thread drift!).
