Anybody have a rule of thumb for brummels ??

    With amsteel.
    I need two types.

For a continuous loop - smallest possible.
Figuring 7" per end overlap and 2 inches or so loss each end for expansion,
I come up with a 32" to make roughly a 14" circumference loop.

For looped ends I figure with 7" of tuck, 2" of loss, 9"C loops (2.85" diam)

14" long straight section (7" tuck ea end) with 9" circumference loops on each end would take about a 50" long piece.

If anybody has a link to a formula or something I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

This is a table that I made with the specs for bury lengths etc. that I got from another member (whom I can't remember at the moment). I added specs on accessory cordage for my own uses.

You have the estimations right. Bury for 7/64 Amsteel is about 7 inches. That's about the only number you need to know for these projects you mention.

The continuous loops I made, after some trial and error, I could get them down to about 30-31 inches total length.

For dead eye extender types like you mentioned second. All you gotta know is the ultimate bury length you want and how long you want your loop to be. So your estimate is also right.

2 inches lost, however, I have never experienced this really. Maybe someone else will chime in on this.

I may be more like and 1" - 1.5" that gets lost due to expanding. I just figured 2" to be on the safe side for minimal length.

    Thanks for the PDF

Definitely not recommended but I have made continuous loops with brummels as small as 8 inches in diametre. I know they are not to recommended specs but they are still holding up fine. I use them in the hammock channels and figured the compression on the part where it folds over the biner aids with strength. I'm probably wrong but I only ever have about 2 feet to fall.

See if you can interrogate Dutch into telling you how he made 2" dynaglide continuous loops. Solidly. He hangs his Bridgeskin 3 from them, I hear. Definitely let us know if you succeed!

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
