    Long Hunter State Park

Went on a 6 mile one way hike this weekend at Long Hunter State Park, which is actually inside of Nashville...although barely. Went with the local backpacking group, which Rain Man is one of the leaders of. Had a good turn out and a beautiful weekend. We ended up with 4 in hammocks, 3 in tents, and one in a bivy. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but if anyone has questions I'll answer them.

Nice pics. Great to have a place so close to the city you can escape to.

Nice pics. I was there this past December after Christmas. It was so darn cold. I remember seeing that wall at a distance, it was covered in snow then. It was cold, I didnt have time to go explore and what not.

Was that Black Pot still hanging on tree by the Camp Site sign?

Rain Man tried to go with me, but too much going on during the Holidays. He spoke of a group trip then, this must be it. That camp site has many trees for hanging. I tented on my trip and it was hard to find a flat spot as the whole area was somewhat on a down grade towards the lake.

I look forward to returning to the area and doing it again, maybe in the Spring. What were the temperatures for you all?

Yep, the pot was still there, we used it to extinguish the fire. I hung it on the cedar tree by the fire ring before we left. I'm going back out there in two weeks with some friends who haven't backpacked before. I think Saturday it was around low to mid 40s, dropped to low 30s overnight, and then Sunday warmed up to high 50s on the way out. It was absolutely gorgeous.

    Thumbs up

It was a great hike, GREAT weather, and fun folks. Here is a link to the photo album, where Dave and I both have posted photos so far. Others may be posting more. Enjoy!

Dave, you should record your experience on the "hammock-friendly state parks" spread sheet begun here recently. Thanks for the great pictures!
