    Hi from the UK!

    Hey guys,
My name is Trev and im from the UK, it appears that i have some sort of illness regarding hammocks.....

Im due to spend 6 months fishing around NZ (leaving Oct) and i thought it might be a cool idea to buy a hammock to snooze away some lazy days but never really considered it as a viable long-term sleeping arrangement...
I have family there so have ordered a Hammock Bliss Double which has been delivered to my brothers place (and tent/sleeping bags to save on baggage limit when i travel)so i was looking forward to trying out hammock fun when i got there.

Well i couldn't wait that long...

I have access to 22 acres of woodland here in leafy England (freecamping is almost impossible in the UK for fear of farmers with shotguns screaming "git orf moy laaarnd")

I thought it might be nice to pick up a cheap hammock to play about with here in the UK so i can get all my knots down and try out its potential as a long term platform for kicking up some serious Zzz's
Onto Google, being a member of many fishing/guitar/bushcraft forums i should have know there would be a forum for Hammocks nuts!
Within weeks i have sucked lots of knowledge from here and all the great members videos (special thanks to Shug/Grizz/dutch) and as a result ive ordered lots of cool gear....
So what started off as a cheap way to pass the time till i head of to NZ has turned into a mild obsession...

    Thanks for that guys!

You lot might well find it funny but its killing my bank balance....

Can someone explain to me what was wrong with my perfectly knotable tapes that came with my hammock and why i have ordered Whoopie slings?

AND the perfectly serviceable guy lines that came with my tarp....apart from being odd colors there's nothing wrong with them can you explain as to why i've gone and bought posh reflective paracord even though my old ones are barely soiled?

I've just found myself searching for figure 9's and KnotBones......WHATS THAT ABOUT!?
Im perfectly capable at tying knots....ive lost control!!!

    Am i beyond help?

Just a bad case of gear addiction i guess

Nothing wrong with neither the tape or the standard guylines, but one of the cool things about hammocks - is the way you can customize it and "fiddle" with it. And it is often easier or faster to use than the standard options.

Plus it's fun to get new gear

freecamping is almost impossible in the UK

Not so Grasshopper! There's a distant land, far to the north (but very definitely still in the UK!) where more enlightened views prevail.

Wild camping is no problem throughout most of Scotland, leaving aside urban parks and folks gardens, as long as you use 'common sense' and get there 'under your own steam'.

Paddling, cycling or walking all perfectly permissible. Pitching up 10' from the car is less so. Disclaimer: - check the details on www.outdooraccess-scotland.com

This is all just in case any good folks from across the pond get put off coming to the 'best part' of the UK

The only downside is that the kilt's thermal properties are somewhat reduced in a good breeze!!!
