Advice on WB tarp

I have had a WBBB for about a year and love it. I had a super-cheap tarp that worked fine in the predictable Florida weather, but I have now moved to central Plateau, NZ and just don't know which tarp to get! I do more kayak-camping than backpacking and both ways I like to go light, but not to the point of sacrificing comfort.

Weather here changes in a heartbeat and it seems to be pretty much always windy. As I now have a 9-5 job (boo hiss!) I don't generally go away overnight unless the weather forecast is at least passable, although it seems to be more often wrong than not. Would the Edge be big enough? Especially as I am a really jumpy person and like the cover of a tarp? If the bigger would be more comfortable would the doors be a good idea or are they just an unnecessary weight for me? I would be looking at Sil, and really want to stick with WB. Any thoughts would be really appreciated!

I have the Edge, and it covers just fine. I hung in a torrential, blowing downpour this summer and stayed perfectly dry. After that, I can't see any reason for carrying a larger tarp with a WBBB. I eventually bought the doors, but that was for winter camping.

You'll be very happy with the Edge.

Just to round things out, I got a Bigmamajamba, and it works great for me.

Guess you can't really go wrong...

WB Big MambaJamba in SpinnUL.

If it can fit over my uber-size Bridge hammock, it can fit over any WBBB ever made

Thanks guys, but it didn't really help me with my decision! I don't think I'll go for the Big Mamajamba - if I am going heavier I might as well get the doors from the get-go. So it is between the superfly and the Edge - weight versus coverage. I am totally torn! Anyone help me make the decision?!!

Use the OES Delux Spinn which is similar in size to the Edge with the WBBB and Traveller. Works fine even in the nastiest conditions (+50kph gusts and heavy rain) if pitched properly. Did purchase the BigMama in spinn. Just a bit larger to provide a bit more "living & headroom" space.

That's some good advice!

I'll add that you should consider the weather. Does it rain all day there? If so, you may want a bigger tarp to create a dry haven around you at camp. If it is short passing storms, then maybe it's not worth a bigger tarp.

Also, I'm not familiar with NZ's animal population, but do you have bears, Florida panthers, gators, etc. that will come an eat you if you cook under your tarp? If not, you may want a larger tarp so you can set up a dry kitchen in your camp. That's something I would never do where I camp.
