    New Years on Springer

Anyone else plan to spend New Years Eve up on Springer? Ed Speer and the Southeast Hammock Hangers Association will be there, along with several other groups and assorted individuals. A great way to bring in the New Year!

I plan on being there not that I have much to do with the SEHHA - more like just to wish the new thrus good luck and to shoot the breeze with the old timers.

SEHHA really isn't anything more than some folks who camp together sometimes...exists in name only so Ed has something to call his campouts.

I wish I could go. Depending on when we get into Atlanta, I'm half-considering sneaking away from the family for an overnight of the approach trail sometime before Xmas, though.

I quit drinking a few years ago, mainly because alcohol didn't seem to agree with my stomach anymore. I know how you feel. It's kinda weird being the only sober person in a group of people who are drinking.

I do have things that help me unwind just as well a drink would.

    Funny story:

My wife and I were in New Orleans a few years ago for a vacation. She wanted to go to a bar called "Coyote Ugly". For those of you who have never seen the movie, Coyote Ugly is a bar where all the bartenders are really hot, well built women. At various times the music will be turned up to deafening levels while these beautiful women clamber onto the bar and dance provocatively, and they will occasionally light the bar top on fire with pure grain alcohol. It's a cool place.

We go in and sit at the bar and my wife orders a drink. The bartender then asks me what I want. Normally I may have 1 beer, but this night I had no taste for any kind of alcohol so I told her that I didn't want anything to drink. My wife added that I rarely drink and the bartender turned to me and said (quote):

"What are you some kind of f***king p***y or something?"

I burst out in laughter and she immedialty apologized.

Don't worry about not going to hang at one of the SEHHA campouts. I went to my first one this fall. I had a really good time. It speaks a lot for Ed that he doesn't care what type of hammock you use. He will still help you out and wants you to be there.

I would go, but my new job either wants me to work New Year's Eve or Christmas Eve. I need Christmas Eve off to travel to see family.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
