Friday was my first full night in the hammock. We did an overnight campout to pacify the kids and while the rest of the family was trapped inside the tent I was slowly swinging in my 1st experiment with a ripstop gathered nylon hammock.
It was unseasonably warm, even for South Carolina, and was close to the all time record for a high temperature. The low was only in the 50s.
I built a two layer thinsulate quilt that is not a UQ but a between quilt(between me and the hammock) and used an old sleeping bag as a top quilt. I was warm and comfortable all night. There were times when the thinsulate quilt tucked under me for a bit and my cold shoulder caused me to re-adjust.
If there was one problem it was with synthetic to synthetic slide. The outer layer of the thinsulate quilt and the ripstop hammock material were PFTE slippery.
My full night in the hammock was much better than the quality of sleep anyone in the tent had. Good sleeping bags and queen sized air mattress are of not nearly as comfortable as hanging in the hammock,
I, as of yet, have not made a tarp but I have a Harbor Freight Camo tarp at the ready. Fear of rain outside the weather weasel's forecast made me tie a ridgeline and to have the tarp in its stuff sack at the ready.
I have done the 1hour hangs in our yard but this really was the first full night in the hammock. Any suggestions?
Here is the YouTube vid that I made after I set up out campsite Friday afternoon:
