And I finally finished my first set. They could have been a little lighter, but for the cost, I don't think they were too bad. Total length, 54.5", weight is approx 15 ounces for the pair. I got Black Diamond tips, baskets and covers ($20 including shipping). The grips are cork rod grips from Academy Sports with rubber mushroom cap from the same place ($30). Poles were ski pole blanks from Goodwinds ($15 including shipping). So, $65 total for nice rigid, somewhat light, trekking poles. They are lighter than the $40 aluminum poles I had, but not collapsible. Could I make them lighter, yes, maybe just a little. Lighter grips without the rubber caps and leave the para cord wrap off. Overall, I like them, and it was a fun project. Oh, I also put two cotes of a fishing rod epoxy coat on the poles, so not sure it was needed it, but wanted to try it.
