    DIY Carbon Trekking Poles Done

Well, we started this discussion over on this thread...

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=28405

And I finally finished my first set. They could have been a little lighter, but for the cost, I don't think they were too bad. Total length, 54.5", weight is approx 15 ounces for the pair. I got Black Diamond tips, baskets and covers ($20 including shipping). The grips are cork rod grips from Academy Sports with rubber mushroom cap from the same place ($30). Poles were ski pole blanks from Goodwinds ($15 including shipping). So, $65 total for nice rigid, somewhat light, trekking poles. They are lighter than the $40 aluminum poles I had, but not collapsible. Could I make them lighter, yes, maybe just a little. Lighter grips without the rubber caps and leave the para cord wrap off. Overall, I like them, and it was a fun project. Oh, I also put two cotes of a fishing rod epoxy coat on the poles, so not sure it was needed it, but wanted to try it.

These poles dont look like they are 54feet 5inches.

    Enjoy your poles.

Ha, you should have seen the truck that delivered the bricks for that wall they are leaning against.

Nice job, nice poles. Alpine carbon fiber poles should be much more impact resistant vs. Nordic poles.
