    "Rope" tree hugger

To avoid a thread hijack elsewhere, how is a rope tree hugger any different than just rope?

Sticks (or something of the sort) are placed vertically between the rope 'hugger' and the tree, preventing any cutting or chafing of the bark.

Here's an older thread about them, with some good discussion (and pics).

    Arrow Sticks...

Using dirty sticks found on the forest floor can subject trees to the risk of infection and/or infestation.

If one wishes to avoid using straps of at least 1" width, with at least one full wrap around each tree, then one should bring clean sticks treated to resist infection and/or infestation.
