Whose family thinks that they are nuts?

Happy Camper wrote in another post:

"My family doesn't understand this new hanging obsession of mine and I was hoping to point at another hanger and say "See! Here's one!" They think conversing with strangers about hammocks on the forum is a little weird.

I did show them the pictures from the first MAHHA hang and their reactions were quite . . . polite. I think behind my back they were pointing at the sides of their heads making little circles while rolling their eyes. You know, that international sign for cuckoo. (Thanks Perkolady for getting me into this!)"

My family doesn't "get it" either.

What do your family and friends...not counting your friends on Hammock Forums...think or say when you tell them you like to go out in the woods (or backyard)...and then hang/sleep in a hammock?

    I was told I was *weird* , with a capitol "W" !!!
Plus, many other things have been said, often with heads shaking and eyebrows raised.

When my daughters tell their friends about me, and the friends give the usual "look" in response, my daughters say, "Yeah, she's a little different than most!" lol

The best, is when I hang in the back yard, and I catch a glimpse of my neighbors peeking through their blinds or back doors, pointing and shaking their heads.

    Maybe they're jealous?

My family thinks its weird that I would rather spend my more money on outdoors cloths that last longer rather then on cheap cloths that wont last half as long. Also my mom asked why I didnt go to Wal-mart and buy a rope hammock instead haha

They think all my gear is for preparing for the end of the world. They think I'm nuts too. My wife tells her friends all the time. Especially when I get a new piece of gear, "He got something for his pack again. You know all that stuff he has." My wife is absoulutely not an outdoors person. What a headache to go somewhere and not get nagged about it. "I'm not going out there it's wet and cold and there's bugs, you're nuts! I'm not going out there!" Oh well some will never know will they!

    mahem - same here!!

You posted as I was writing mine...
I have to add "ditto" to having a "Why-in-the-world-would-I-want-to-do-that?????" -- wife.

We plan a vacation where the wives can be pampered and the guys can get dirty... - somewhere like North Conway (shopping and close to trails) sounds like a good idea!!

Our cheapness can moderate their expenditures...

My wife just said that she like this one Dingus, She ABSOLUTELY thinks I'm nuts. She has called yall my boyfriends soooo many times. See, what loving wife would say that . At least she will make my gear, and I LOVE her for that.

my wife is the same way. I have been making stoves and she says " It's not even camping season yet." She doesn't understand you' got to test before you go.
