I loaded up the motorcycle Saturday and hit the road late in the morning.
I didn't know exactly where I would end up for the night, but I knew that it would be somewhere that I could hang.
I ended up in the mountains of North Georgia.
I thought about hanging on a buddy's property outside Clayton, GA.
I pretty much have an open invitation to camp there, but it was a little early in the day to stop riding, so I headed back out onto the road and into the curves.
After enjoying some nice, curvy roads, I stopped in at the Two Wheels Only Motorcycle Resort in Suches, GA. It's closed for the winter, but they leave the restrooms unlocked for folks who might need to stop by for a potty break. I've tent camped there a lot, and I've hung my WBBB a few times since I started hammocking last spring.
It was getting late in the afternoon, so I decided to head to a Natioanl Forest campground that I knew of but had never camped at. It is Cooper Creek Campground. It is off GA 60, about five miles from the highway on a graded gravel road.
The road runs along CooperCreek.
It's a nice, smooth, easy road -- which didn't keep me from taking a tumble on it in November '09 and cracking some ribs.
Anyway, back to this trip.
Cooper Creek Campground is comprised of 17 campsites, with three or four of them along the creek. There were a few folks already in camp, but I still was able to get one of the creekside sites.
I hung my WBBB 1.7 Dbl, slung my Winter Incubator under it, tossed in my poncho liner topquilt and Big Agnes Sleeping Giant pillow and rigged my WB Superfly tarp over it. I decided to leave the doors off the tarp.
I rigged my underquilt a little too far toward the head end of the the hammock and ended up with cold feet. Purely my fault, as the Winter Incubator is plenty long enough.
After setting up camp, I went to meet the neighbors -- who insisted on feeding me.I hung out with them all evening.
Then I slept until 9 a.m.
I packed up, said goodbye to the neighbors and headed back toward GA 60 and its curvy goodness.
After lunch at Riders Hill in Dahlonega, GA, I wandered around the mountains a bit more before heading home.
It was a good weekend, and I had a great night's sleep in my WBBB.
