I loved the video! It looks like what's on my sewing table right now. I wish I have time & talent for that format. I am currently making a double layer IX top quilt. (Just taking a break while I post this).
Both top and bottom layers will have small folds, 5/8" high when finished. These are sewn after pinching the fabric together, running from head to toe, about 7-3/8" apart on the top layer and 7" apart on the bottom layer. The top row will begin and end with a half spacing which will be offset from the bottom row such that there will be about 3-1/2" +/- spacing between the folds when you put the top and bottom layers together. The sewn folds in each layer will face the opposite layer, creating the "space" between the layers as redoleary suggested as an alternative in his great video. The top layer is 2-1/4" wider than the bottom to allow the quilt to lay over me in an arc - same concept as an underquilt differential, but opposite.
I will post a tutorial with pictures this weekend.
I am a gram weenie backpacker, so I will not be covering the IX at all. It will have a draw string footbox.
I will take it on it's maiden voyage the following weekend on the Florida's Swamp Runners HammockForum hike. Right now the lows are predicted to be in the mid 50's, so I should be plenty warm. I'll report the results after that excursion.
