    3/4 UQ/TQ question

    Hello all,

I have been trolling the forums for a while and have gained a lot of knowledge from everyones posts. I have followed the directions posted in the forums for the TQ. I used Thru-hikers 1.1 rip for the top/bottom shell. This is my first sewing experience. It is 46 inches at the top and 36 inches at the bottom. My mesh baffle wall is 2.5 inches from fabric(top) to fabric(bottom) and 6 inches from baffle wall to baffle wall. I was shooting for a loft of 3 inches. What should I use when calculating for the down, 2.5 inches or the 3 inches of loft I was shooting for? I'll add my 10% for over fill later.

I am planing on making an UQ as well, and have ordered the top quilt kit from Thru-hiker. I plan on using the down to fill the TQ. Would it be ok to use the M90 with the kit to make an UQ? Would water splash cause a problem for the down with that fabric?

I would like to put this 3/4 UQ on my HH ultra light. Does anyone know where I could buy a pattern for the HH or any Asm hammock? I really would like to get it right the first time considering the price of the fabric.

Any help you could offer would be great. Thanks again to everyone who has posted information, it's been very helpful.

I'd use 3" in my calculation. Strictly speaking, your true loft will be limited to the baffle height but you'll benefit from overstuff.

this is what i put together for my HH UQ. the only thing i would change are the pleats, i wouldn't go outside in, i would only pleats the inner baffle and probably just the second from the inside where the velcro is. couple mistakes but it was my first DIY project

Thanks for the quick reply. My calculations are saying 8.8 oz of down. That UQ post is excellent. I'm sure it will give me what I Need.

I've made a few quilts now and have settled on the following to determine the amount of down needed.

I take the length times width times baffle height then multiply by 1.33 then divide by the fill power.

This gives me a nice plump result every time.
