Well, this weekend a group of us decided to enjoy a little camping and I wanted to try out my new tarp and Black Bird somewhere other than my backyard. We got to Turnipseed camp Friday afternoon. The winds were howling Friday night and we saw some rain during the night and Saturday morning early. It looked like it might clear up so we hiked up to the Cheaha shelter, and just as we arrived at the shelter, the rain came back in. We made the best of things and boy did we eat. Friday night, pork steak and rice, baked beans and St. Louis Ribs, Saturday morning, scrambled eggs and conecah sausage, left over ribs for lunch. Saturday for dinner, smoked brisket and smoked chicken, corn on the cob and green beans. Sunday morning, country ham and scrambled eggs. It rained most of the weekend, but we certainly made the best of it
Now, as for the hammock and tarp, I slept comfy and warm, and for the most part dry. My new Shangri La was just fine, but I did not get the seam sealed just right, so had a few drips, but nothing major. I also tried placing my Dri Ducks poncho over the ridgeline of the Bird, and boy did that make it nice and toasty inside. It got down to 36 degrees by morning and I slept very toasty.
I put together a little video/slide show to show you how much fun we had. I thought it was going to be mostly ground dwellers, but Bigbamaguy and Mandydawn joined us, as well as Squidbilly and his son. There were 5 hammocks and 2 tents, the hangers out numbered the ground dwellers for sure.
