    Tarp packing sizes?

    Hey guys,

I'd like to know of the tarp materials - PU coated polyester, silnylon, spinn, CF - which packs down smallest for size?

Another question I've been pondering is does a tarp pack down better when folded up or stuffed into a sack. I've even tried packing mine into a spare sleeping bag compression bag with no discernible improvement in size

I'm trying to decide what to do for a new tarp. Pack size is more of a concern to me than tarp weight right now, so assuming tarps of equal size which material packs the best?

Spinn on the left, cuben on the right. Silnylon would be in between

I was very impressed with the pack size when I got my OES standard in sil. It is so buttery soft in it's stuff sack that It will squish down pancake flat in your pack. For the price ,weight, coverage and the pack size it is a winner in my pack.

Wow! That is impressive. What sizings are the tarps pictured?

I was leaning towards Spinn but if it packs that much larger I may just go with silnylon!

Spinn is an OES MacCat Deluxe. Cuben is a larger tarp if forget the dimensions off the top of my head but it is the ZPacks cuben hammock tarp.

The spin is a bit larger then sil when packed, but lighter. Spin is also alot louder.

It was the MacCat Deluxe I was considering. What size is that stuff sack? ATM my tarp takes about 4-5 litres in volume

Not sure I know it was in the medium sized range. You can contact Brian at OES regarding the dimensions of the stuff sack or maybe someone else could chime in if they know it.
