Depending on the weather, I would start either at Smithville (M-66) or Rainbow Jim's landing and paddle to Chippewa landing just upstream of the US 131 bridge. Chippewa landing is a livery I work with. That upper stretch will be quiet, I would be surprised if you see anyone at all. Campsites are not overly abundant, but they are there.

    Contact Rick Shafer at http://www.chippewalanding.com

He is a great guy and can take you to the put in and you can leave your car at the livery safe and sound. Tell him I sent you. We work a lot together. PM me if you want more details. I don't want to give away all my river secrets to 10,000 people here.

LOL, I don't blame you. There is one in Red River Gorge, KY I've been trying to get out of a friend of mine for a few months.

And thanks! I'll give him a call next week after I get back from GSMNP (no hanging, just hiking & photography).

I certainly would be interested depending on dates...My buddy just ordered a new boat and I'm sure he'll be up for it...We did three or four mulit days trips last year with the hammocks and it was a great experience each and every time...Post the details when you know them and if you don't mind a couple more joining I'll let you know...

I might be interested as well. Important to keep group from blooming to too large of size because of impact on camp sites. Depending on dates, wife and I might join you. I do know the river like the back of my hand. Been paddling 20-30 days a year on the Manistee for 21 years.

If you go to http://www.chippewalanding.com and go to the "directions" link you will see a video done by RedOleary of our trip last November. Hammocks have made it on the livery web site, how kewel is that!!

Red, Barefoot Child, and Mrs. Canoebie and I went mid November. Had a great time.

Nice video. I assume it was a two day trip. Did you do your own shuttle or hire someone and how far a drive was it between cars?
