Where do you hang your pack?

Just wondering where everyone hangs their pack when they go to bed at night. The logical place to me seems to be hanging off one of the hammock ends, which keeps it off of the ground and under the tarp edges.

The thing is, when the pack isn't completely empty, I'm wondering if the weight that far to the outside is causing the hammock to lay differently. It kind of feels like it's making a difference, but I don't know if it really is or if it is my over-active imagination. . .

So, I'm asking all of you smart folks out there, is it me or is it science?

I usually hang it from a nearby tree, preferably the one my hammock is strapped to. If I think it might rain, I put my poncho over the outside of it. This is if I have things inside it...which I typically do. If it were empty, then I'd hang it from the end of the hammock or maybe even put it under my legs. I use a Jam which is frameless, and I took the foam sheet out of it as well, so it's basically a sack with straps.

When not using a bug net, I hang my pack from the ridgeline at about knee level and let it dangle off the side of the hammock that is opposite of the asym I'm laying on. It's easily reachable, while still being under the tarp and off the ground.

Hanging your pack from one end of the hammock should be fine. It will affect the angle of the suspension when the hammock is empty, but unless it is really heavy shouldn't adversely affect the lay when you get in it.

So, the tautness of the ridgeline keeps it from changing the hang angle?

Why hang a pack? What has it done to you? :P

Use it as a pillow in the hammock or insulation for the feet.

I usually strap my pack to a tree my hammock and tarp are on using the waist belt and sternum strap. If it's raining, i either put my pack cover on or i lash a tripod together quick and hang it off that under the tarp. I have also been known, on occasion, to put it in the garbage bag i use as a liner. I've left it in the shelter i was camping next to also.

Most of the time it's strapped to the tree.

That is what I do. There should only be a few articles of clothing left in your pack, so it should only weigh a few pounds

I'm looking at that as well. Would love to hear how it's working out for you and would also like to see any pictures that anyone has that is using this method. Basically interested in how they rig everything up so that it doesn't look like one of those desk ornaments where the balls swing back and forth and hit into each other all day. . .

This is the method that I've been using, but it just doesn't seem to be working out. You would think that there isn't much weight, but it being colder, when I'd go to bed I wouldn't need all of the clothes that I'd been wearing, so they would go into the bag. Didn't want my water laying out, so threw that in. Cook kit and water filter are in there too. Guess what I'm saying is that it must have been more than I would have thought, because the little bit of weight really seems to throw off my lie. Last friday, I messed around with a bunch of different options and finally, at 2 AM, I'd had it and unhooked my pack from the hammock and put it on a sheet on the ground. Fixed the lie right away and I slept like a baby. . . Can't really explain it.
