wildernesslogics 3S TQ review

Just received a 3 season top quilt today from wildernesslogics.com

This first post is just a pre-review/ first impressions. I'm heading to the mtns this weekend and will post up picts and final comments on my return.

On Thursday evening (3/3) I contacted Marty via his website to check stock and lead time for one of his King Size 3 season top quilts.
His response was prompt and said he could ship Monday (3/7) First Score A+

I paypaled thru the website order forms which was very easy to navigate. Second score A+

On Monday I received "your order has shipped". Third score A+

Quilt spec's from the website.
1.1 Ripstop Nylon
Color: Black
Filled with 14 oz of 800+ down
2" Baffles with sewn footbox.
Has removable never before offered condensation fleece patch.
55" x 78" this top quilt will keep you warm to around 20 degrees F.
Total Pack Weight: 25 oz stuff sack 12"x7".
*Includes Free longterm storage bag for storage when not in use.a $8.99 value.
Custom made in North Carolina.

Nylon stuff sack measures (laid flat) approx. 9" x 14"
Cloth long term storage bag 24" x 27"
Condensation fleece patch measures 11.5" x 13" has velcro on two edges.

A close inspection of the TQ:
all seams look straight and stitching is tight.
all baffles are well stuffed with down, I could feel no gap.
Over all build quality looks top rate. Fourth score A+

Last comment until I get back from the mtns.
I have always slept in down SB usually the semi rec type.
I have never liked mummy bags they make me feel like I'm
in a straight jacket. So basically, I like room to move around.
That said,
I am 5'9" 185lbs IMO this king size TQ fits me perfectly.
I would not want it any shorter or narrower.

Lost my kitchen pass for a weekend hang at the local stream.
The wifey has other tasks for me. Dang Spring time yard chores...

Very nice, but why no neck draw cord or snap to close? Seems like a glaring omission to leave such critical designs features out.

Hi BF,
I assume you are asking me since no one else has posted to this review.
I will give it my best guess as to why there's no draw cord or snaps.

This is a 3 season quilt not winter.
not sure it was ever designed to convert to a sleeping bag with snaps.
not sure I'd want snaps poking me in the back when the edges are tucked under me.
not sure I'd want a drawcord around my neck. I toss and turn(back side to side) a lot and would prefer the quilt not move with me.
finely, shockcord, snaps add weight...

I agree with you on this. I'm not a big fan of mummy bags due to the restricted feeling. I have this same TQ your reviewing and its nice to be able to move around under it much like your comforter at home and not deal with a snap or shock cord around your neck. Just my opinion. Different companys have different designs. OutandBack, better keep the wife happy or you will be using it nightly

That's a good looking quilt. What's up with the fabric with his tag on it? Does it absorb respiratory moisture?

You are correct, pretty cool idea. Its a piece of fleece thats removable so your not packing up your TQ with condensation on it and you could hang the fleece on your backpack and let it dry while your hiking to the next camp site. What i found out was, when its attached to the TQ, there is actually enough room on each side of it to slide your hands under and keep them toasty while your chillin.

I've only had my WL TQ a few weeks and it's been great. It’s much more comfortable than a MB. The fleece feels much better next to my neck and face than binding and it's a nice feature when you’re lounging around. As for a Draw cord or snap, No thanks, I like mine just the way it is. If I need to get up at night I don't want to have to start looking for a cord lock. Just my 2 cent.
