We usually get our daughters some sort of treat at the end of the school year if they've kept their grades up all year. This year both of my girls (13 and 17) have asked for hammocks after test driving mine. They'll want to camp in them some but its pretty unlikely they do much wet weather camping so for them a tarp is more of a dew shelter and/or sun shade. A couple of these set up asym might be just the ticket for them to have a fairly lightweight tarp without breaking the bank...gonna have to stop by WallyWorld for a look...

    The wife...

I am sure my wife hates it because everytime we go grocery shopping I have to run the camping isle. I pulled the trigger because Walmart's camping selection varies from week to week and I am not sure how long they are going to keep the tarp around.

I find myself curious; the posted specs have the 8x6 ft tarp as 15 oz, but the 8x9.5 (about 58% larger) is listed as 30 oz- 100 % heavier..??!?
hope it is some sort of typo..

I am proud to report that I've been clean since the last SA meeting (Stovies Anon.)

well... unless you count the DIY BushBuddy that Smalls is sending me.
Technically, it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm still clean/reformed.

I'm getting just as bad with tarps and hammocks though...
5 hammocks, 4 tarps... plus the two hammocks for the girls...

Honestly, Syb, it appears that I am short on tarps, so the girls will likely get blue WW tarps soon.

And for the bargain price of not $99.99, not 49.99, only $9.99 you too can have a 4th (albeit somewhat miniature) tarp. Act now and WW will include a stuff sack at no extra charge.
    Cashiers are standing by.

Well, I did the math of square foot per ounce for each size.

The 5x7 was 2.91 sq. ft per oz
The 6x8 was 3.2 sq. ft per oz
The 7x9 was 3.1 sq. ft per oz
The 8x9.5 was 2.5 sq. ft per oz.

Expected weight would be 25-26 oz (assuming 3 sq. ft per oz).

REI has the Outdoor products 8x9.5 at 26 oz.

Has anyone that has bought this confirmed the weight of just the tarp? I will eventually make a sil tarp, but with two of these and 10 minutes, I can bodge together a 10x7 tarp that would weigh the same (or less than) and probably be more durable than a cheap blue poly tarp.

Edit: To answer my own question, I found this: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-...hread_id=44229 Which claims that the tarp alone weighs 8 oz
