If DD successfully escapes from Japan...advice on Tucson area camping...

    Hi
Our trip departure is in doubt, we're losing our electricity, there's no food on the shelves and gas stations are empty....

...but if we do get to depart on Tuesday, I'd like some advice for North Arizona.

I'm considering stopping at Freidlein Prarie Dispersed sites and Manzanita for a day each.

Originally, I was going to head to the Grand Canyon (Mather), but now I'm considering stopping for an overnight at each of the above before GC.

    Any experience/opinions on either...?

    Thanks...

    Tucson?

I'm confused. Tucson is in southern AZ, and you are talking northern. Are you starting in Tucson and heading north?

Stay away from flag-grand canyon, and its spring break now so a lot of the easy to reach camp areas are packed. Go up the 87 highway north to the payson area, from there you can either continue north on 87 and find realy good hiking and camping, or turn east on the 260 and do rim hikes around and into some lakes. Lots of good areas to hike and wonderful temps. PM me if you want more specifics or maps and waypoints, I tend to check daily.

    We're in Las Vegas!
Checked into hotel and have our car....

Leaving the airport at Narita was so sad...people sleeping on the ground, embassies advising their folks to leave...it was a nightmare...glad to be here...

    ...now on to REI!
