Well, this is what I get for being MIA for the last while. I'll be with you guys in spirit, but I'm hanging in eastern Oregon this weekend. There's no getting out of it now. At least I'll be hanging. I'm bummed that I'm missing out on the first annual hang, but I'll make it to the next. Have a wonderful time.

You will be missing out on a great party.

I am beginning to believe that the northwest is going to have a thriving hanging culture in the near future. Could we spawn our own Shug? Probably not even close to his charisma, but hey with the size of the hang it is not impossible?

Well... it's time for me to share. This is the surprise that did not make it in time for everyone. I will need to make arrangements with you all to get them to you when they do arrive. I can either mail them, hand deliver, or wait until the next hang I see you at. I will gather info, including delivery preference, at the hang.

    So... without further ado...

I have patches on the way for everybuggy who will be attending (graphic below -- made by the delightful Devil Woman Flags). They will be 3 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches with a red background, so they should fit nicely on a pack or wherever you choose. See you all there.

There are black bears in the coastal range. Mostly confined to the southern portions but not out of the question. However there are active cougar populations in the area too. Most will be scared off by the alcohol sweat we will be seeping. However since the hike in is mostly down hill the "extra weight" you will be carrying will be significantly less on the way back out. Personally based on the fact that this is not a dry hang I would bring the Ursak for convenience.

I will be bringing a sack to hang my food in because it is the only option I have.

Thanks for the offer to drive Gary. Unfortunately, I will not be in attendance this weekend. Have some obligations that I couldn't wiggle out of. Next time for sure!

    Have fun everyone!

Umm... 357mag, 10mm, or both. Usually make sure there's a can or two of bear spray in the group....and a couple slower runners It's all just precautionary, of course. I'm sure we'll someday have to figure out how to dispose of old never-been-used bear spray. Never really have two much trouble. Racoons and dogs with poorly trained owners have been most of what I've encountered. The size of group you guys will have is a big advantage as far as safety goes.
