What to use in CO?

I am "new" to hanging in CO (lived here for 4 years, just no hammock camping since I have been here), what should I use for insulation, I have used a thermarest in the past, but that was in NC. I am looking for an underquilt for either my ENO setup or my hennessy...HELP!

Hi Tanker,
A pad works fine in Colorado for late Spring into Fall however they are a hassle to keep in place.
If you can do ($$$) a full length UQ that is the way to go. If you go with a 2/3 or 3/4 your're still
messing with a pad for your lower legs and feet.

I just recently upgraded my quilts. They are 3 season. 20F rated.

I think a good quality 3 season top and bottom quilt will serve you best.
You can always add/sleep in a down coat and insulated over pants
for that mid winter hang.
3 season quilts also pack small and are light.

I can't decide between a 2/3 or 3/4 length vs. a full length. Suggestions?

my suggestion, givin' how sporatic CO weather can be and how harsh it can get, so quickly.. I'd go full length. Depends on whether your primary factor is weight or comfort and there are still arguements being made for all regarding both. I consider them comfort ounces and sleep like a baby with no hassle or readjusting a pad.. but as always, HYOH. If you're a serious gram weenie then 2/3. Id just always rather have and not need than need and not have.

Utah is similar in climate and I have been trying to figure out the same thing. After a few months of playing with stuff last fall and this winter I have come to the conclusion that I need a full length quilt in the winter but when it is above freezing a 3/4 works fine without a pad. Both quilts have a place it just depends on the times you get out and what your plans are. If I was going to try and get by with only one UQ it would have to be a full length because I feel that I need the comfort during the winter.

That being said my next experiment is an under quilt protector with the 3/4 UQ. I'm hoping that combination will get me a little deeper in to the season with the smaller quilt.

I think I'm sold on a full length. Now which one...I dont want to spend more than about $200-$250, so JRB is out...for a solid 3 season full length, any feedback?

I think I paid 239 for my Hammock Gear 3S full length. Not sure what the others are charging.

I dont' think anyone else has a full length except for hammock gear.. could be wrong.

I've been staying out of this conversation because of my views on the value (or lack) of a full-length underquilt. However, since you have decided to go that route and your given budget, why not look at the New River from Arrowhead?

Down is king here in arid Colorado, but synthetics work just as well. More bulk and weight for a given warmth, but a lot easier on the wallet too! I haven't tried any of the Paul-built quilts, but the design doesn't seem to have changed too much from the original design, which I have used and like very much. Good luck finding what you want.
