I feel like a new guy here

I am not sure which forum to even post this in anymore.

I feel like I am a new guy here so I will start from scratch. I have been away from the web site since the end of February 2010.

I hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine last year. I am a hammock user and did use my hammock when I was not sleeping in shelters all the way until I hit Maine when I actually went to the ground a few time to share a tent. I know those are bad words to mention here, going to the ground. O, Well, I did it and am not too proud but what is done is done.

Since my return to the real world again things have not been good to me. That is the reason it has taken me so long to come back to the forums. I hope to continue to be an active participant again now that things have started getting under control again. If anyone has any question about hiking any part of the Appalachian Trail with a hammock, I can probably answer it.

Wow, is all I can say on how much this web site has grown. There is no way I am going to get caught up on all the new posts that have been posting in the year since I have been gone. I must say that the web site has grown thanks to Angry sparrow, Headchange4U, and Just Jeff. I must say they have done one heck of a job with the web site. My hat is off to them. Keep up the good work.

My next adventure is already in the works. I am going to bicycle from Windsor Locks, CT to Bar Harbor, ME at the end of May if all goes well. I will be bringing my hammock but I am concerned that there may be not a lot of places to hammock on a bike trip. My partner is going to have a two man tent and I can get in that if I have to. If anyone has done a long distance bike trip with a hammock, I would like to hear more about it and how easy it was finding hammock spots.

    Stay tuned for more.,,

Welcome back and congrats on completing your hike last year! This is an awesome site, as is Whiteblaze.

I look forward to hearing more about your bike/hammock adventure. I've done a little on the C&O Canal here in Maryland. A lot different than what you are planning though. Each adventure has it's own uniqueness to it!

Rick, I consider you an old and dear friend. I'm very happy its all coming together for you and you knew re-entry can be rocky. I feel goofy welcoming you to HF, how about welcome back to HF!
    Biking and hammocking--two people?
I bet the engineers here will come up with a way to take the bikes apart each night an in less than 2 minutes use the long tubes of the bikes to erect a tensegrity stand so no matter where you find yourself that night you can hang hammocks!

Something along those lines was already running thru my head.
Utilizing your bikes frame as a stand with minimal additional supports should be doable.

Got a picture of your bike troll, please. Or a link to a pic?

    Welcome back.
