    How much can ripstop hold?

Quick question: I am making a couple hammocks for my friends and one of them weighs about 235. Should I make him a double layer or is a single layer of 1.9 good enough to support him? Thanks a lot.

Single 1.9 will be fine. It might stretch a little, but it will still feel great.

I'm about 225..My DIY hammock is 1.9 RS and will be fine for that or better....you saw it. I would imagine it would be good to 250+...after that maybe you would want to double it..

Just bought 8 yards of 1.9 oz 72" black ripstop to make 2 hammocks. It should be good enough for him. Bought a bunch of biners and cordage at REI too. Man, this hammock stuff is a never ending battle.

I got a figure 9 and some shock cord to mod my hammock. I couldn't find amsteel there and I'm going to Menards tomorrow to pick up S biners and some of that blue cordage for my tarp. I'm almost there!

i go 6'2" and 255lbs i made a single layer gathered end style hammock out of 1.9 ripstop. i have had several naps in it so far and have no problems. i think that a double 1.9 hammock would be over kill. just my thoughts. hope this helps.
