    Rent-A-Hang

Is there anywhere to rent various hammock makes/models? I did some fairly extensive web research and could not find any hammock rentals. I've been leaning towards hammock camping for over a year and decided on a BB based on videos and reviews. (My rig is backorded so time will tell if I made the right choice) But it would be nice to sample several before pulling the trigger.

There are many sources for rental of just about any camping gear made, except hammocks. I think you can rent a HH from REI, but that's all I could find.

I thought this would be the best place to bring it up. And some of you who own several might want to look into renting them out to noobs like myself to help the decision making process. There really is a lot of info out there and finding the right fit may take some trial an error. I for one don't want to buy several rigs, just to find "the one".

Anyway, just some food for thought....

Good idea, never heard of anyone around my location renting hammocks but everything else. Tents, kayaks, canoes, etc...

Sounds like a business opportunity =D

There would possibly be a rental market if the prices were in the thousands of dollars, but they arent, so more people are likely to buy from the get go than rent. Ergo - no business opportunity.

I disagree, there would be more of a market if they cost an arm and a leg, but there is a huge market for other outdoor equipment rental. No different than renting a $200 or $300 tent.

IT does, only not for me, don't want to lay out the capital. But I thought it would be a way for forum members to rent their rigs to other members that are either noobs or those looking to make a change/upgrade and want to try out something new.

i have a few friends, rangers and cops that want to do a hang trip. they said they would rent gear, but i dont have enough, but it is a thought. 4 trips may pay for used gear bought.

Several people from TX were in the Ozarks last weekend for a group hang also. There is probably 5-6 people within a few hrs of you as well (myself included).

O one of the problems with a rental system is nylon stretches as such if someone heavier than you uses your hammock much it can affect your lay later on.

This business would be complimentary for a business that already had your market's attention. Camping supply rental, kayak/canoe, etc.
