Whoopies made in larger diameter rope need a longer bury. Basically keeping things proportional. 72xDiameter is a good way to determine the bury length.

Rope diameter won't matter much, but bury lengths will increase with larger diameters. I've made whoopies with 5/16, 3/8 and 1/2 inch rope and all have done well. As long as its a braided, hollow core rope, it will work. Rope strength needs to be considered before hanging from it tho.
Practicing on the larger diameter helps get the principle down. And prepare you for small stuff like fling it or zing it.
    Good luck in your quest.

I can't get that video to work. I had already tried it after reading the whoopie sling sticky, with two browsers even... nothing plays.

I went ahead and added another couple inches to the bury and she's holding well. I want to keep the factory rope gather on the hammock so that I can quickly attach at my house with carabiners. So I've got my long suspension lines which have a loop at each end, and are buried in the constrictor, and will attach at the tree ends. Then I've got short segments consisting of a loop that clips to the hammock via carabiner, and the bury. So far, so good; I'll continue to refine it for my needs as I go. Suggestions are always welcomed...

    Thanks for the help guys!

I created this worksheet for building custom slings.

Enter your rope diameter and the measurements will be calculated for you.

Wow, this is great! I was just sitting down to try to figure out the measurements for an adjustable ridgeline. This saved me a little bit of head scratching.
