    Talking Jersey Devil

    Hey everyone,

So spring has sprung in New Jersey and I've been thinking about starting to really try hammock camping over that barbaric tent camping, haha, just kidding (kinda).

I have owned a eno doublenest for about 2 years, but I have yet to actually use it to sleep in, most of the time I use it when I go car camping as a place to just hang around and rest in, but I'm now going to make the jump to full on hammock camping. That's what brings me here, when I started searching about hammocking(not a real word), pretty much every search google search had something to do with this forum in its search.

Onto me though, I am from central New Jersey, I have just recently, past 2 years or so, gotten into backpacking, but I have been car camping since I was about 4 or 5. I own an eno doublenest hammock, with the original suspension system in it. Today I went to campmor and bought some 4000 lb test webbing for .06 cents a foot, I got a 20 foot strand and a 13 foot strand. I'm still looking for some ideas on how to hang my hammock, maybe some people could chime in on that. And I'm still trying to decide on which tarp and bug screen I want to get, chime in on that too.

Well that's it for now, let me know what other fellow jerseyites are in this forum and where you like to do your "hammocking".

    BK

Welcome from the woods of Burlco.

    Webbing works well for suspension.
A couple cinch buckles or 2 pair of triangles will work well for adjusting.

Consider replacing the stock cordage running through the end channels of the ENO with some amsteel continuous loops.

Climbing rated carabiners are suggested for the tree straps.

Bug screens can be made several ways, one popular method is to sew a couple curtain sheers from Walmart together and make a gathered end at the bottom. Search on Fronkey bug net to get more details.

Tarp-wise there are many great options, everything from a PU coated tent footprint on closeout for less than $20 to $100-$150 winter tarps with 12' ridgelines and doors on the ends. Not to mention everything in between.

Checkout the DIY section along with tips and tricks in the gallery, loads of useful info.
Shug has a bunch of entertaining gear review and howto videos, fronkey, xtrekker and more have loads of diy vids to give you some ideas.

Keep an eye open for group hangs, there are several coming up soon, one just out past Lancaster Pa with many friendly folks willing to demo and share info. Roughly once per month there is a group headed out into the Pine Barrens of South Jersey, hiking, car camping, canoe camping, lots of options.

Again welcome and, post up with any questions.
