    Poncho liner

Has anyone considered a poncho liner made from IX?

I've not had the pleasure of ever using one myself ... What would be the pros and cons?

Poncho as undercover and the IX as an under quilt, then a warm coat during the day?

    Hummmm .....

I would want to see that tried. The only problem that I can think of is that IX required an air gap to insulate properly, and when wearing it, it would be tough to maintain that air gap.

Of course, they make insulated jackets from it, so it must work somehow.

I found a thread on here where it had been tried, with mixed results. I wonder if anyone has tried it long term ....

When MacEntyre first started playing with the stuff, he made a vest out of it, and was quite pleased with the results. It may be that there's a distinction to be made between loose contact and compression. Maybe not. Dunno.

The idi gear poncho works very well. TeeDee has one also and we have found that they keep us warm and dry down to freezing. Works very well with the Dixon Roller pack. We don't get sweat drenched like we do with silnyl ponchos.

I believe idigear's stuff is multi layered. 2 or 3 layers. And it floats.

Tired Feet- whats the weight on the poncho? And is it reasonable to say that it could work as a uq?

    One layer.

Weight , just a moment have to go down to the lab: 32.45 oz

A DIY version meant as a poncho only could be made lighter. The idi gear version is meant for stadium use. It has 4 zippers:

    1. one for folded poncho to use as a sit pad
    2. a full perimeter zipper for sleeping bag use
    3. one that closes up the neck hole, either fully or up close to your neck for a better seal
    4. one for the head hood.

You could leave off all or just some of the zippers if you wanted lighter weight. Also, it is lined on the outside and inside. You could have just the outside lining if you wanted.

We have found the poncho to be good for us down to at least freezing and maybe lower with the right clothes. Down to freezing we simply wear a cotton tee shirt and Levis. This is when hiking, might need more just sitting around, maybe not though.
