    Noseeum repair idea

I have a few holes in my noseeum hammock netting and have tried to do a backstitch to repair and, after being inspired by my stuffsack, came up with this idea. Works great for me and is fast and easy. This is for small, quarter sized holes. It also helps alot if you put some tesa tape behind the tear and just stitch into it, then remove it when you're ready to cinch.

So, just out of curiosity. How did the tears form? I'm just about done with a DIY hammock. Attaching the noseeum now. Anyway, I am a bit worried about the noseeum where it forms the top part of the tie-out shelf.

Any items in that shelf will rest in the bottom right at the seem with the ripstop and noseeum. Was thinking of putting a two-inch strip of ripstop at the bottom of the shelf and attaching the noseeum to that. Would avoid putting any strain/weight on the noseeum.

In any case, I don't plan to put too much in the shelf, and could be overanalyzing but right now I'm jsut looking for info on noseeum strength/tear resistance.

EDIT: Just wanted to comment that the repair plan sounds good. If the noseeum is somewhat loose, you'll lose very little surface area and shouldn't cause a bind elsewhere.

My blackbird arrived with a few small holes in it. No bigee but they spread easy. There will be some bunching when you use this method, but its the cleanest fix ive come up with so far. I ordered the Chinese blackbird so this may be why.

Gnats and noseeums are different critters here. We have both. Mosquito netting will stop gnats, not noseeums. We have noseeums for a brief period in northern michigan, but I remember arising one night to relieve myself and it felt as though I had a thousand needles stuck into me. They can be vicious.

I think noseeum netting is a lot tougher than we think it is. Once it tears it is vulnerable, yet when intact, it is really pretty strong.

    No-seeum netting IS pretty tough

but it will tear when a cat lays on your hammock in storage and "plucks" what seems to be an interesting fabric (to a cat). My fault for not storing it safely.

Why not just sew a noseeum patch over the area.
