So I was going through my climbing equipment and I found a 20' spool of 5mm dyneema tech cord...would this work for whoopie slings?

I dont think so. You need a single/hollow braid to make a whoopie sling.
That sucks...well, at least I have another roll for climbing...
Is there any other cordage that I could use? It's kinda hard to find amsteel around here...

But to answer your question, yes. You can use the yellow poly rope from HD or lowes. As long as it a single/hollow braid, you can make a sling from it.
You can also get amsteel (25ft) section from arrowhead for a good price. not sure if that yellow poly rope from Hd or lowes would hold in suspension that opie is talking about.
Can I use the tech cord with a toggle?
