I have a hacksaw to cut to length and a 1/2" & 3/4" unibit that I use to drill the holes.

Now that I've settled on how I'm gonna tie it off, I think I'm gonna make it a little shorter and just use 1/2" holes. Like this:

The small holes are there as a place to tie a lanyard to and to reduce weight.
    Hope that helps.
    Good luck,

I was thinking unibit and a dremel with a cutoff wheel for fast easy work. Doing it with a plain 1/2" drill bit and a hacksaw should be easy though. This stuff is soft.

Red it is funny you decided to go with all 3 1/2 in holes. I drilled a set in wood with all 3 holes 1/2 in. By contrast I did not shorten them but actually went to 2 in just because I am not sure how well the grain of the wood would hold up under stress so I chose to beef it up a bit. My buddy has some scrap cedar he let me use so at least ill have a little natural bug repellant hanging by my tarp. These things are rough right now. They are 3/4 of an in thick. I am thinking I can hacksaw them down the center making each one into 2. Then I will be attacking them with a belt sander to thin them down some more. Not sure what Ill aim for for a final thickness but I can tell you it wont be 1/8 in. The basic shapes are there and I am no woodworker but there is potential for these to come out nice. If they do Ill post pics. If they dont then this never happened.

Well, this noob is here to eat crow.

I swapped out my ridgeline today for a new one made of 2.2 mm Zing-it. It was working great until I tried to tie it off after tensioning the trucker's hitch. It is slippery stuff, just as you all tried to tell me. Lesson learned.

I foresee your ideas getting together with my milling machine in the near future. Thanks for the education.

No worries gmcttr, there are probably people who can successfully tie any kind of knot in Zing-it, I'm just not one of them I'd def. be interested in seeing the finished product when you get them out of the mill.

That's a really good idea Redoleary. Simple, yet effective. Will have to make a few of these.

Here's my first quick and dirty take-off of Redoleary's ideas. I wanted to stay with tying the line off on cleats and not having to use a knot.

It is attached to the line with the same wrappings, goes around the tree and hooks back in the same way to tension the line. Then you go straight to the end cleat and tie it off as you would do a boat.

This first effort is over-weight and can be trimmed down considerably. It is 1.5" long and wrapped with 2.2 zing-it.
