Ah! I see, you keep your straps attached to the hammock.
Around the tree clip your done.
I guess it depends on the type of hammock strap one uses.
On my WBBB with just straps I make a loop and poke it thru the sewn loop and insert a stick.
On my SB with TS and whoopies I just feed the tree strap thru the sewn loop.

On my WBBB i use the webbing and buckles... for this setup i use a carabiner because i don't have to disconnect the webbing from the hammock.
on my diy hammock i use whoopies and a marlin spike hitch. because the webbing isn't connected to the hammock i just thread it through the sewn eye rather than use a carabiner.
its all about the convenience. the 2-3 extra ounces never really bugged me.
