    VIDEO: Keyhole line tensioner

Here's V 2.1 of the line tensioner. The chief differences are that the top is no longer scalloped but instead has two notches, and the slot in the bottom was opened up and coincidentally resembles a keyhole now. What is better, is that now its larks headed to the line, so as not to loose it, and it is wrapped in a manor suggested by Otter46544, which works much better. Here is a link to the original thread should anyone be interested.

    Good luck,

Here is a diagram with dimensions etc if anyone is interested. Its made with 1/8" thick bar stock I got from Lowes or someplace like that. Its pretty much symmetrical so most dimensions apply to both sides.

    Good luck,

I'm all for creativity and what not, but I have to ask, how this is better than using a small Figure 9? With all the extra wraps and half hitches, it doesn't seem to provide any advantage over a regular off the shelf figure 9.

    Am I missing something?

    Cheers

Thanks for the dimensions Red. I can't quite get the cleat idea out of my head. I'm thinking perhaps a marriage of the two - your idea + cleat... It's late and my head is swirling with too many ideas. Perhaps clarity sometime this weekend.

No, I don't think you're missing anything My fig.9's are the carabiner variety, and this is lighter than it, but probably weighs about the same as a small reg. fig.9. Other than that, it was just a fun little project, that has allowed me to procrastinate on other more important projects

Creative! I think the number of wraps could be fewer - the cleat effect doesn't need many wraps to work as long as the half hitch is done correctly. From my sailing days, it was fun to watch folks wrap the cleat until it couldn't hold any more line and then complain that it took too long to release all the line. With less wraps, the horns could be a little shorter but it's probably not worth bothering with.

There are three ways I could see this being better than a figure 9.

    A. You make it yourself.

    B. Costs a little over $0.35 each.
(48"x1.5"x1/8" aluminum bar stock at Home Depot for $11.27 will make 32 of these)

    C. Can be used with smaller line than a figure 9.
    Visualize whirled peas.
