Or you could get the Clark and sew in the second layer on the inside and have it all. I am thinking of doing this to mine. It would only add about 3 oz.Annie, Have you looked at the Claytor Jungle hammock. With it's double bottom you can put in pads, which won't move around and you cannot really feel, youi can put in pillows, coats, space blankets, whatever, UNTIL you get an underquilt. Then you still have a double layer hammock to put your pad in during emergency cold weather.
If I was starting out right now I think the Claytor Expedition $90 shipped, JRB 8x8 $50 on sale, and a pad would get you in the game then you could decide on what you need after some hang time. UQ's are warmer IMO since they wrap around you better. I am a fan of the 1/2 UQ and leg pad combo for the best of both worlds.
I would not get the Clark NA and count on the pockets even with down bags in them when the temps get really low. The dead air spaces and the pockets seams will create cold spots that in milder temps will seem fine but freeze your *** off in real low temps
Good luck on choosing and hurry up before NEO starts singing the praises of the Claytors You will believe nothing else will work and that a pad will take you below 0 after he gets done with you.

I suggested something similar on the Clark Yahoo forum recently.
But my thought was inflatable pillows with a small amount of synthetic insulation inside the pillow baffles.
Basically, make a pillow perfectly sized to each pocket that operates like a Big Agnes Dual-Core pad.
Mini Exped down mats , now that might work. You would need to tack the darts in the pockets to keep the loft to 3" or less. You would still need to deal with the center pocket seams. But my thought was inflatable pillows with a small amount of synthetic insulation inside the pillow baffles.

I strayed away *blush*
I was so close to have them made for me,
but then i stumbled into this:
1/2 UQ for Bridge and Clark hammocks
http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=2763
and
Hybrid 1/2 UQ
http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=2879
So then i went to:

I´m slightly miss spelled as :
Moisky-1/2 UQ with down
Clark´s Hammocks are expensive, but i think my NA is super,
then again i have never used another brand.
Good luck!
PS, heard that people put air filled bags in the pockets or Even leafs
Loyalty is right. I'm **** loyal. I tried an HH and a few other off shots but in my humble opinion nothing compares to my clark NA. I'll try to post some picks this weekend, since I have 4 days off in a row for the first time in a long time. Ya!
I don't know what will work in Oregon for the weather factor but I'm from Winnipeg Manitoba where as of right now it is -9 c and there is still tons of snow on the ground. I've gotten down to -17 c with a pretty heavy wind. I was just using my clark, my "pillows", a -9 c bag and my DIY 10 x 11 cat tarp. I have happy and warm, and I sleep cold.
I love my clark but if you are thinking of ordering one don't waste your money on the XL fly. I found that it didn't nearly do the job I thought it would. NOT enough coverage. At least not for me. Get the stock tarp and replace it.
