    I aim to have the length from the tip of the spreader bar to the top of the triangle be 85% of the length of the spreader bar. I view 75% of the length to be a minimum, and err on the side of longer because it reduces the compression forces, but for hammocks "my" length the whole hammock and suspension triangle fits under a tarp with 10' (just!) or 11' ridgeline.

    although having the triangle completely under the tarp is an issue only if you're using a door or a beak...means there is just a line coming out.
