I started with a gathered, knotted end Risk style Test Hammock with unhemmed Wal-Mart $1.00 yard fabric and poly webbing.

Soon after I purchased my HHExplorerUL from REI (that way if I didn't like it I could take it back but never did).

It wasn't long until I added some 2nd hand commercial made gathered end top entry hammocks to the collection.

Then came the Skeeter Beeter UL and later the Skeeter Beeter Pro.

It seemed like no time until the WBBB was added to the stable.

Although I have traded, sold, and given away many hammocks, I still have that first test one, along with a good assortment of others.

"Choose" he asks? I can't decide where I like to go out to dinner most, much less which hammock is the best.

I think the hammock I like best is the one that I am in at any given moment.

Me either! I can never decide where I want to go to dinner and my wife HATES it! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one!

I dont guess I meant "choose" so much as what's your "go-to" setup. Did I mention I love this forum?!

as for suspension and weight, I am going to convert to whoopies and tree straps (BTW, can I use Maxim dyneema tech cord as tree straps? Tenslile strength of 5,000lbs...I use it for climbing anchors.) I want to eventually pick up a mac cat tarp and a lighter bugnet.

My "go-to" now is my HHExplorerUL with 2QZQ zipper mods and whoppie sling suspension. I choose it most often just because I am a creature of habit.

I just added whoopies to my WBBB and may go with it a bit and see if I like it better.

(But what's better? I like both Pasta, Tamales, and Steak so why decide between Italian, Mexican, and Steak?)

The preference for tree straps is webbing so that the weight is distributed over a wider surface area than with a cord in order to prevent tree damage.

I don't know the terminlogy but if your tubular webbing is poly, not nylon which stretches it ought to do the trick well.

Yep, that Explorer UL is a good one, ain't it? It was my very first hammock, obtained more or less just by luck of the draw. That's all I knew about then, the HH. the Deep Jungle seems about as good. Maybe with more experience I'll think it is even a little bit better.

Anybody here ever notice how seldom an HH Explorer UL shows up for sale here? I shouldn't be bringing that up, since I'm always on the lookout for another one at a good price. But I pretty much look in vain, it is a very rare item to find. Hard to find on eBay also.
