I'm REALLY hoping this works! Heading off to a week of Scout camp tomorrow. Sprayed the hammock, shirts, shorts, and sock to try to help from getting munched (2.5 bottle of the Sawyer product). As I'm typing this, I'm realizing that I forgot to spray out hats. Durnit! Oh well..

I was wondering, does this stuff expire? I haven't seen the question asked.

Lets say I buy a bottle and lose it, then find it a few years later. Would it still be good?

If you get a chance try the 3M brand they were one of the first from what I understand, to come out with this . I use it once a year and it works great on everything ! Pack ,hammock, gators, clothes. I hope this helps.

Did someone say a GALLON of Permethrin -10?? N contains no solvents or petroleum distillates

    costs about $65 including shipping

    http://www.amazon.com/Other-Permethr...rds=permethrin

    Product Description
Long-Lasting Fly Repellent with up to 28 days of residual activity for just pennies a horse! This long-lasting fly spray features a new, exclusive, safer formula. (Residual activity for up to 28 days*) Our best results came from mixing from 2 to 4 ounces of concentrate in a gallon of water and for some extreme infestations up to 6 ounces per gallon for spot treatments on the ears, face, and along the backline. ( Mfg suggests starting at 2 ounces per gallon and increasing the amount if needed in heavy infestations.) Special, non-burning formula contains no solvents or petroleum distillates. It has virtually no odor when mixed with water. Effective against one of the widest range of insects available. Among the many pests this fly spray is effective against are: horn flies, face flies, lice, ticks, deer ticks, mosquitoes, and many other pesky insects.

I called Control Solutions Inc. and ask about it's suitability in treating clothing. The lady told me that they recieve alot of calls asking this same question. She went further to say that it is against the law to use their product on clothing, since it's not labled for such an application.

So there you have it. The final word.
Please DO NOT USE this or any product other than Sawyer's to treat your gear.

Gee now... Wonder what I'll do with this new unopened bottle of 10% Permethrin?[/QUOTE]

They are correct that it is illegal to use for what you want, since it is not labeled that way. However, you are not using it straight from the bottle. The diluted concentration that would be used is not what they are selling you. Thus, you are not using it the way it is being sold. It would be against the law if you used it straight as intended for livestock.

    DIY Permethrin Treatment

Interesting... My 10% permethrin bottle has pull-out instructions for diluting and applying to everything from livestock to perimeters to 'outer' clothing, to dogs.

I sweat. Lots. So I can't see myself using this on my clothing since skin is semi-permeable. It also appears that as long as someone else is outdoors with me, the bugs leave me alone! When I'm solo, its another story...

I use it sparingly on my hammock and suspension (except the straps on trees) and just this alone seems to really cut the sheer amount of buggies bugging me.

The last bottle I purchased (Martins) was actually labeled for several other uses, such as:
indoor house plants, vegetables, fruit & nut trees, homes, and non-food areas of hospitals, bakeries, hotels, meat packing plants. etc.

I'd advise doing the research to decide for yourself if it's right for you.
